Chimamanda Adichi :Dangers of a Single Story.
Chimamanda Adichie talked out stereotypes and her stereotype experiences. She delivered this amazing speech in 2009 It took place in Ted Global 200- Conference in Oxford. All the people there, the audience, gathered around to hear words of widsom from powerful people with varied interests. All of the speakers were lawyers, secientist, and other important figures. Chimamanda told about her first story of what she wrote.
"So what the discovery of African writers did for me was this: It saved me from having a single story of what books are."
Reading this quote, made me realize/think about myself. I have had a few single stories myself. I had my own single stories about other cultures and nations. Hearing Chimamanda talk about the stereotypes make me realize that there is a lot of stereotypes in the world.
Another quote that stood out from Chimamanda Adichie's "I was startled. It had not occurred to me that anybody in his family could actually make something. All I had heard about them was how poor they were, so that it had become impossible for me to see them as anything else but poor."
I see understand why she said that quote. The quote reveals her reaction to see that Fide's family wasn't really poor. It opens my eyes and makes me think of what I used to say about different cultures. This quote reminded me that I used to be surprised to see/learn that Chinese people eat and farm other produces and do not only eat rice.
Ms.Adichie surprised me by saying the examples of being a stereotype. They reminded me about my youth being an evil little child. I always made fun of how skinny Chinese people were and how they only eat rice. It placated me because it really shows that everyone is a stereotype one time in their whole lifetime. They have had to be. No matter who they were.
"I recently spoke at a university where a student told me that it was such a shame that Nigerian men were physical abusers like the father character in my novel. I told him that I had just read a novel called American Psycho – and that it was such a shame that young Americans were serial murderers. Now, obviously I said this in a fit of mild irritation."
The topic that Chimamanda Adichie talked about really made me think about myself and the times of my stereotype-ism. She really made sense and she talked about the economy and how different it was in her perspective. It was nice to know that she was able to tell the realism about Nigeria and their economy because, to be honest, I thought it was like Africa.

"The Tale of Two Indias"
There is an economic difference because of the 2 sides of India. There is an uneducated poorly paid country workers and the other side was educated and moderately paid city workers. India was run by a social restriction of classes. People are either born rich or poor. All around India, many people are moving from countryside to the city to make a living, make more money, and become educated.
India and China are emerging from controlling governments into governments that have more options and have free oportunities for growth. The majaor difference between India and China are the types of governments they have. India’s democracy moves slower than China’s authoritarian government. China doesn’t need permission to do something.
To emerge as a global power means to grow economically and be open for foreign investments. Since India now has an educated job force, it can be used in other countries. They offer the rest of the world cheap technically trained workers. The past 20 years, the government began to turn away from socialism and loosen regulations so they can have economic growth in India. India’s middle class has doubled because of the citizens migrating to the cities for education and jobs.
The growing gap between the classes might lead to the poor becoming more poor. With more people getting educated, the poor will be left behind and they might not get any support.
International companies have relocated to India because the workers are finally trained, educated, and work for less. Companies can save money while maintaining a satisfactory level of service. After the Civil War, our country went through a transformation similar to India. The citizens had opportunities open up for them that allowed them to better themselves and their families.

"I Have A Dream" Analysis
The famous speech, "I Have A Dream" was told by Martin Luther King Jr on August 28, 1963. This speech was told on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Over 200,000 civil rights came and supported Martin Luther King. MLK called the speech because he wanted to talk about racial equality and to try and put a stop to discrimination. This was an important event because without his speech, I think that the world would still be in slavery times or still discrimination of the races.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." <--- When reading this quote, I have a sense of hope for the future generations of america.
"When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every tenement and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old spiritual, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last."" <--- This is another quote that caught me. It reminds me of our reactions when we win or accomplish something. Everyone always sings as a sign of joy.
"One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination" <--- This other quote is that is powerful to me. It reminds me of the old stories I've heard all my life about the slaves that were chained up and abused until they died.

MLK's Dream
Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream was to have freedom and have all people, blacks and whites, treated equally. His dream has so far came true approximately 91%. It's reason for that is because some people still crave of favored the old ways. What makes me think this is because people, whites and blacks, are still hypocritical about each other. My family and I are living the dream because we beasts like that and everyone treats us equally in our neighborhood and everywhere else.
Growing Up Digital
Young people spend more than 5 hours a day using some type of electronic or any type of technology. I spend around 30 minutes texting, 2 hours on Facebook, I don’t web searc, but if I do, it’ll be less than 20 mintues . These activities don’t interfere with any activities I do regularly because I don’t usually stay indoors, so I won’t really have a problems.
Cellphones, laptops, etc. can become a problem when you allow it to take up too much time of your day and life. The warning signs may be when your texting and you walk into an open street staring at your phone. Cellphones and computers affect your ability to focus by taking your eyes away from your education to look at a text or go on games to not learn. Instant gratification that electronics give you is when you, for instance want a song. So, you go on your market or download the song from any type of app. When you can’t keep your phone down. These are bad ways, especially when your driving in a crowded street. The good things computers can teach are: how to spell and type, and learn how to research things you want to do. Conversations that are better through texting are quick easy ones that you don't need to call someone. Conversations that deal with business are better done in person. Limits my school have on the usage of cellphones are not having them in class or in the hallways and they're only allowed when off of school campus.
If I were to restrict the use of ALL technology (instead for emergencies), my life would be sporty. I would be sweaty and flexible everyday. I would have been very athletic. I wouldn't make any changes because my life would basically be the same, except for an extra 6 hours I have on hand.
